Matador Now!

What:
The Titanic Players will be making their 7th appearance at this year’s Del Close Marathon. The Titanic Players are the most recognized collegiate improvisation organization in the country with the highest percentage of graduates actively performing and teaching in the professional improv industry. Graduating members of Titanic have continued successful careers at Saturday Night Live, The Office, Second City, ImprovOlympic, ComedySportz, Boom! Chicago, the Apollo Theater, and The Magnet Theater. Titanic is also the largest collegiate organization, with 4 groups at Northwestern University and 4 groups at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. We are currently in discussions to establish additional groups in Illinois, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, and New York. In 2007, Titanic’s oldest group from Northwestern took home the first place trophy for the nationally-televised CIF College Comedy Championships. The cast you will see tonight is composed primarily of senior directors and successful alumni who have been together for 3 years or more. The Titanic Players perform One Group Mind’s signature long form piece, The Expansion Tree. The Expansion Tree is revolutionary in its approach of reacting to the piece as it unfolds rather than establishing a predetermined structure. It arms the improviser with techniques that manipulate pace, intensity, and content. Most notable at all of Titanic Player performances is their unique use of 16 defined types of editing a scene, with only a handful taught outside of One Group Mind. The Titanic Players are coached by Mike Abdelsayed, an original member of the legendary, 6-year IO House Team, Valhalla. He performed with the Second City Touring Companies and on the Second City E.T.C. Stage. He is a founding member of The Titanic Players (1994), as well as a founder of its professional counterpart, One Group Mind (2001). Mike has been coached directly by Del Close, Liz Allen, Miles Stroth, and Noah Gregoropoulos, to name a few. He is co-publishing a 3 book series, due in 2008, entitled, The Expansion Tree: From Formula to Form.
